MESA, Ariz. - Even the world champion Cubs and their ace, Jake Arrieta, cooled off the A’s only for so long.
Oakland had scored 54 runs in the previous four games (not counting a 7-0 exhibition win over Italy), but Arrieta didn’t allow a hit in his three innings of work. He did allow one run after walking two and giving up a sacrifice fly to Jed Lowrie.
Oakland’s first hit was a bunt by Yonder Alonso in the fourth inning - then Alonso hammered a three-run homer in the sixth.
