CLEVELAND – The A’s are another step closer to getting shortstop Marcus Semien back, although it will likely be at least two or three weeks before he’s ready for the daily grind of playing and hitting.
Semien, who has been on the disabled list since April 16 after having fractured his right wrist, played catch Monday for the first time. He’d never stopped catching the ball with his gloved left hand, but before Monday he’d dropped the ball or flipped it toward second base.
Now he’s testing his surgically repaired wrist.
“It’s big news,” Melvin said.
