Ryon Healy leads A’s over Jays; Plouffe’s struggles continue

Monday night illustrated precisely why the A’s soon might choose to go much younger and cut ties with some of their winter additions.

Ryon Healy, 25, pounded two homers and drove in all of Oakland’s runs in a 5-3 victory over the Blue Jays, while Trevor Plouffe, the free-agent acquisition who moved Healy off third base, continued his drastic slump.

More than a third of the way through the season, Plouffe and the other two position players the A’s signed as free agents are doing little. And with younger players knocking on the door, there’s a decent chance Oakland will try to clear some room for top prospects in the coming weeks.
