Rumor Central: Could Red Sox reunite with Jed Lowrie?

After designating Pablo Sandoval for assignment, the Boston Red Sox are in need of a third baseman and Jed Lowrie might be an option, according to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports, who tweets that the Red Sox "very much like" the Oakland Athletics infielder.

Lowrie is slashing .272/.339/.455 with 10 home runs and 33 RBIs in 87 games this season. The 33-year-old has been used primarily as a second baseman in his current stint with the Athletics.

A first-round pick of the Red Sox in 2005, Lowrie spend the first four seasons of his major league career (2008-11) with Boston and had considerable playing time at second base, third base and shortstop.
