The Oakland Athletics are expected to make several players available as the July 31 trade deadline approaches, and second baseman Jed Lowrie could be a very marketable commodity.
Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports.com reports the A's will field offers for Lowrie, who is hitting a career-high .293 with an .837 OPS and has a team-friendly contract that includes a $6.5 million base salary this season along with a $6 million option for 2018.
The 33-year-old Lowrie owns a .260/.329/.404 in 10 seasons with the Athletics, Astros and Red Sox.
Rosenthal adds that first baseman Yonder Alonso, who hit his 14th homer Monday, is an “obvious trade candidate" given he is a free agent after the season, but cautions there is a limited number of contenders seeking a power-hitting first baseman.
