Following Tuesday night’s dramatic 10-8 A’s win over Kansas City, the Coliseum was host to another back-and-forth affair Wednesday afternoon.
This time, the Royals prevailed, taking the deciding game of the three-game series 7-6.
Blake Treinen took the mound for the ninth inning in a 6-6 tie. Alcides Escobar greeted Treinen with a double to left. Escobar had three of Kansas City’s 14 hits.
Alex Gordon followed with a single to right and Escobar motored home with the go-ahead run.
In the bottom of the inning, the A’s had pinch-runner Boog Powell at second with two outs before Kelvin Herrera struck out Chad Pinder for his 26th save.
