SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Right-hander Jesse Hahn had put together an impressive spring up until Sunday and appeared to have all but locked up one of the A’s two open rotation spots until the Colorado Rockies put a big dent in his glittering numbers.
Hahn gave up eight hits and seven earned runs over 3 1/3 innings and ended his outing by surrendering a home run to the Rockies’ Charlie Blackmon in Oakland’s 9-2 loss at Salt River Fields. It was by far his worst outing of the spring.
Not counting a sterling three-inning outing against the WBC team from Italy, Hahn had allowed just three runs in 8 2/3 innings in three prior appearances (two starts) with one walk and seven strikeouts.
