Roster squeeze tightens with addition of Chris Coghlan; Aaron Brooks goes to Cubs to complete Thursday trade

The A’s seem intent on making decisions on their final 25-man roster tough on themselves, adding infielder/outfielder Chris Coghlan to the mix Thursday morning in a trade with the Chicago Cubs.

The A’s dipped into their relatively deep pool of starting pitching to trade right-handed starter Aaron Brooks to the Cubs to reel in Coghlan, who was faced with diminishing playing time in Chicago with the rise of Kyle Schwarber in left field.

“There could be some tough roster calls at the end, depending on our health,’’ manager Bob Melvin said. “But that just means you have some depth.
