MESA, Ariz. - Ross Detwiler made one of the A’s best starts of the season last year at the Coliseum. After that, as Detwiler said, “Things got weird.”
The left-handed starter threw eight scoreless innings in his Oakland debut on Aug. 10 after being acquired from Cleveland for cash considerations, but he lost his next three starts. He bounced back and forth between starting and relief work in September, putting up a 9.00 ERA that month.
“The overall numbers might not look great but there were times he pitched really well for us,” manager Bob Melvin said.
