Rickey Henderson, appropriately, used to steal his way into the Coliseum with his friends when he was a kid; they’d go under a fence, or cut a hole to sneak through.

On Monday evening, the A’s dedicated the playing surface of the Coliseum to the Hall of Fame outfielder, unveiling “Rickey Henderson Field.”

“This is a special moment for me,” Henderson said. “This stadium means a whole lot to me, I grew up in Oakland, I used to come to the ballpark, a lot of times I didn’t have money to buy a ticket so somehow we would find a way to get into the ballpark.
