Rickey Henderson sees A’s giving City of Oakland a boost

OAKLAND – Rickey Henderson grew up in Oakland, so it’s no surprise that he says he’s “disappointed and sad” that the Golden State Warriors are leaving Oakland for San Francisco and the Raiders are trying to bolt for Las Vegas.

He is delighted, however, that the A’s want to build a new ballpark to keep an Oakland address. And until that gets done, the playing field at the Oakland Coliseum is being named after Henderson’s baseball’s all-time leader in runs score and stolen bases.

“I was honored and I was shocked,” Henderson said Tuesday in a conference call shared with A’s president Dave Kaval.
