OAKLAND — As hard it may be to believe, Rickey Henderson has slowed down in middle age, so much so that he was 15 minutes late to his own press conference Monday to talk about the Oakland Coliseum field being named in his honor.
“You waitin’ on me?” said Henderson, sporting sunglasses and a big smile as he walked into a packed interview room.
Rickey was known to be fashionably late even in his heyday, so no one seemed to mind. But even though he was behind schedule, he caught up quickly to the magnitude of the honor being bestowed upon him.
