Rays edge A’s 5-4, take series three games to one

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Back and forth the A’s and Rays lurched Sunday before Tampa Bay took advantage of, you guessed it, an Oakland error.

A throwing error by reliever Daniel Coulombe set up the go-ahead run in the seventh and Oakland lost 5-4 at Tropicana Field, dropping three of four games in the series. The A’s are 9-23 on the road, where they have now lost 21 of their past 26.

The A’s loaded the bases with one out in the ninth against Rays closer Alex Colome, but pinch runner Adam Rosales, representing the tying run, briefly held up at second on Chad Pinder’s single to left and had to remain at third.
