Bob Melvin was going to get his 1,000th career win eventually, and it finally came Saturday night.
Thank you, Rajai Davis.
The A’s entered the ninth inning trailing the Twins by a run, and Davis’ two-run home run — his second career walk-off homer — gave the A’s a 5-4 victory.
Melvin is the ninth active manager with at least 1,000 wins. He sat on 999 since Sunday, and the A’s lost their next five games. It got to the point it was no longer about a milestone. Melvin’s priority was a win for the sake of a win.
