SAN DIEGO -- Stephen Piscotty's booming blast sent the A's into extras, and Jed Lowrie secured them a win with a go-ahead, two-run shot in the 10th.
The 4-2 series-opening win Tuesday night was the A's third in a row, putting them back over .500 at 37-36.
The A's had just four hits to their name when Piscotty stepped to the plate with two outs in the ninth. Down to his final strike against Padres closer Brad Hand, the right fielder launched a game-tying homer on the next pitch for his fifth long ball of the season.
