Oakland Athletics Recap 4/6: A’s Win First Game, Sonny Gray Shines

The Oakland Athletics edged out the Chicago White Sox today at Oakland Coliseum, 2-1. Sonny Gray went seven solid innings and struck out five, walking only one and allowing three hits in his 2016 debut. John Axford and Ryan Madson pitched two shutout innings, with Madson getting the save.

The A’s opened scoring on a sacrifice fly by Jed Lowrie, scoring in Billy Burns in the first inning. Carlos Rodon, the southpaw pitcher for the White Sox, did his best to limit the damage, but allowed an addition run in a Mark Canha home run in the second inning which decided the match.
