The Oakland Athletics announced on Thursday that they will pick up Jed Lowrie’s club option worth $6 million. They will also add Mark Kotsay to the coaching staff.
Lowrie played in 153 games and his 14 homers were his most since 2013. Look for him to once again be the primary second baseman for the A’s.
Lowrie may fall into a little less than everyday status with a big move by a young player or by trade, but by them picking up his option, it doesn’t seem like that is a position they are trying to improve on the trade market.
