Oakland A’s trade Jharel Cotton to Cubs

The Oakland A’s traded pitcher Jharel Cotton to the Chicago Cubs on Saturday, the team announced. In exchange, the A’s received cash considerations from the Cubs.

Cotton last pitched in the majors in 2017, before undergoing Tommy John surgery the following spring. He returned to minor league action this summer, but got knocked around in a couple dozen innings of work and wasn’t able to make his way back up to the bigs. He was designated for assignment by Oakland on Wednesday to make room for other needs on the 40-man roster.
