Oakland A’s plan to play Astros under orange, smoky sky

The Oakland A’s will play their fourth game against the Houston Astros Wednesday, despite the orange, smoky sky hovering over the Bay Area caused by widespread Northern California fires.

The lights have been on at the Coliseum for most of the day, manager Bob Melvin said.

“I don’t have to have any sunglasses to go out there today,” Melvin said. “It’s like we’re in a dome. It’s been dark out there all day.”

Though the sky appears to be cause for alarm, the air quality index will act as the deciding factor if it is unsafe to play.
