TORONTO – Chris Smith, 36, had gone 109 months in search of his second career major league victory.
Thanks to a sputtering A’s offense that managed to scratch out just two hits on the evening, he’ll have to wait a few more days at a shot at career victory No. 2.
Despite turning in a quality start by holding the host Toronto Blue Jays to three earned runs over six innings, Smith, 0-1, was the hard-luck loser in a 4-2 A’s defeat in front of 39,316 at Rogers Centre on Monday night.
Smith’s only major league victory came on June 24 2008 as a reliever with Boston.
