No perfecto for Shohei Ohtani, but he beats A’s again

ANAHEIM — Shohei Ohtani, who beat the A’s in his major-league pitching debut in the first week of the season, threatened to throw a perfect game against them Sunday.

In his first start at Angel Stadium, Ohtani retired the first 19 batters until Marcus Semien singled to left with one out in the seventh. Ohtani then walked Jed Lowrie, all the damage Oakland mustered against the rookie from Japan in the Angels’ 6-1 victory.

“You never want to get a perfect game thrown on you,” Semien said. “Of course, it’s in the back of everyone’s mind, but it’s really hard to do as a pitcher.
