ARLINGTON, Texas – Rajai Davis and Trevor Plouffe, two of the free agent acquisitions the A’s had hoped would spark the offense haven’t ignited in the first five games.
Davis is 2-for-21 and Plouffe is 3-for-19. Those combined 40 at-bats are nothing when set out against a 162-game season in which each man might come to the plate 550 or more times, but they keep getting moved in the lineup as manager Bob Melvin looks for a place for both men to click.
Davis, the nominal leadoff hitter, gave that spot over to Marcus Semien for Saturday’s game in Texas and batted ninth instead.
