Matt Chapman receives cortisone shot and talks about what’s next

MESA, Ariz. — A’s third baseman Matt Chapman received some good news and bad news on his right hand issue.

After leaving camp for Los Angeles Thursday to undergo an MRI with hand specialist Dr. Steven Shin, results revealed no structural damage on the right hand. But Chapman did receive a cortisone shot due to swelling and inflammation on the sesamoid bone, which will keep him out of all hitting activities for a period of time.

“We are pretty confident that’s gonna push that swelling out and it’s gonna be good to go,” Chapman said. “It’s kind of just taking a break from swinging.
