MESA, Ariz. — Matt Chapman is champing at the bit to get himself into a game this spring, but the A’s are staying conservative.
After receiving a cortisone shot for his right hand soreness on Thursday, Chapman’s hand was still a bit swollen Sunday morning. The third baseman said it was feeling better, but he may have to wait longer than expected to play in his first actual spring game this season.
“I think it’s gonna take a little bit more time,” Chapman said. “It’s hard to say because I haven’t tried to do anything yet, so they want me to take some more time off just to be careful.
