Matt Chapman breaks out of slump to help A’s win eighth straight game

OAKLAND — Matt Chapman could hide a little bit; his teammates have been jousting for the spotlight.

While Mark Canha and Matt Olson have been pummelling baseballs left and right at exponentially faster clips, Chapman quietly fell into somewhat of a 25-game slump, scraping together a .208 average with four home runs and 26 strikeouts.

But a meaty 3-1 fastball was more than enough to feed a hungry hitter. Chapman crushed Seattle starter Yusei Kikuchi’s offering 403 feet into deep right field, igniting a slump-busting 2 for 4 game the A’s won 6-5 on Saturday at the Coliseum.
