NEW YORK - With A’s manager Bob Melvin looking to shake things up at the top of the lineup, Mark Canha made his first career start in the leadoff position on Sunday at Yankee Stadium.
Canha entered the day batting .250 with an on-base percentage of .308. Oakland’s leadoff men in the team’s previous 48 games were batting .162 with a .242 on-base percentage, plus manager Bob Melvin said he wanted to get center fielder Rajai Davis a start off Sunday.
“We’ve had a little trouble with production in the leadoff spot,” Melvin said.
