Mark Canha homers twice, but A’s fall to Giants for second straight day

OAKLAND — On the day the A’s celebrated their 1989 World Series sweep of the Giants, they could not duplicate the result of 30 years ago.

Oakland got two home runs by Mark Canha, but the Giants won 5-4 to complete a two-game sweep in front of 47,321 fans at the Oakland Coliseum.

The game wasn’t settled until two were out in the bottom of the ninth and Josh Phegley lined what appeared to be a sharp single to center. Phegley tried stretching into a double, but was called out after the threw from Kevin Pillar to Donovan Solano.
