MINNEAPOLIS -- A's left-hander Sean Manaea, who is on the disabled list with a left shoulder strain, did not throw his scheduled bullpen session at Target Field on Thursday morning, instead playing long toss as the A's slowed his rehab.
A's manager Bob Melvin said Manaea experienced "a little bit of soreness" while throwing from flat ground on Wednesday and noted the team will "play it by ear" when planning a bullpen session.
Melvin, when asked if Manaea's DL stint could subsequently be extended, replied, "Could be." The A's are at least certain he won't return when eligible Sunday; right-hander Sonny Gray will make the start against the Tigers at the Coliseum.
