MESA, Ariz. - Academy Award nominee Mahershala Ali, who is from Oakland and grew up in Hayward, organized a screening of “Midnight” for the A’s players on Thursday night in Scottsdale, Ariz.
“He’s and Oakland guy and a big Athletics fan, and he wanted the guys to see it,” said reliever John Axford, a movie buff who studied film and television at Notre Dame. “It’s fantastic, it’s my favorite of the year.”
The A’s expected as many as two dozen player would attend “Midnight,” which will be up for Best Picture on Sunday evening.
