Walks undid some good work by the A’s on Sunday at the Coliseum, including an intentional one that set up the go-ahead homer.
With the game tied, one out and first base open after Trea Turner stole second base in the eighth inning, Ryan Madson threw two balls to Nationals star Bryce Harper and, at that point, the A’s elected to just put Harper at first base. The next batter, Ryan Zimmerman, parked a 3-1 pitch from Madson over the wall in left and the Nationals went on to beat Oakland 11-10, taking the series two games to one.
