Just how bad has the A’s offense become?

ARLINGTON, Texas – Is it possible that the A’s offense is actually worse than we think it is?

Standard statistical treatments are clear this Oakland team doesn’t hit much. The A’s are 14th in the 15-team American League in runs scored with 131, 13th in both strikeouts at 306 and on-base percentage at .301 and 12th in batting average.

True, the A’s are tied for fourth with 46 homers, and are third in sacrifice flies, but that’s not near enough to make the A’s an offensive threat. Oakland has played 35 games and has scored two or fewer runs in 14 of those, or 40 percent of the time.
