ANAHEIM — After spending more than a month on the disabled list with a left oblique strain, A’s catcher Josh Phegley is set rejoin the club before the start of a three-game series with the Seattle Mariners on Friday.
Phegley has spent the past two weeks on a rehab assignment with Triple-A Nashville, but only started to catch this past week. Phegley was in the A’s clubhouse before Wednesday’s finale against the Los Angeles Angels and said he felt good after catching six games in the minors.
While catching is Phegley’s main priority, A’s manager Bob Melvin was also pleased with the catcher’s chance to get consistent at-bats over the two weeks, something he never got while platooning in with the A’s.
