TORONTO - Catcher Josh Phegely was scratched an hour and 15 minutes before Oakland’s game against the Blue Jays with left oblique tightness, the team announced.

Bruce Maxwell is now catching and batting eighth. Maxwell is hitless in his past 10 at-bats.

Outfielder Jaycob Brugman is available off the bench Wednesday after being scratched from Tuesday’s lineup with neck stiffness. He hit in the batting cage and said that the neck issue was resolved; he’ll continue to get treatment to keep loose and prevent any recurrence.

With the A’s managing just eight hits and three runs in the first two games at Toronto, manager Bob Melvin shuffled the lineup slightly, swapping Jed Lowrie and Yonder Alonso in the third and fifth slots.
