OAKLAND — The A’s placed veteran right-handed reliever John Axford on the 10-day disabled list Wednesday with the shoulder strain and recalled right-hander Jesse Hahn from Triple-A Nashville.
Axford, 34, was warming up Tuesday night to potentially enter the game against the Los Angeles Angels when he felt tightness in his shoulder after throwing a curveball. Manager Bob Melvin said he tried to throw a second pitch and was still feeling.
Axford was receiving an MRI and the A’s hoped to have the results during or after the game against L.A. at the Coliseum. Melvin is hoping it’s not serious.
