John Axford could return soon to help A’s struggling bullpen

ARLINGTON, Texas - The A’s bullpen, which is going through one of its rougher patches of the season, could get one of its key members back later this week.

John Axford, who has been out the entire season so far with a right shoulder injury, threw a hitless, scoreless inning for Triple-A Nashville on Saturday and Oakland manager Bob Melvin said Sunday that Axford might need only one more rehab outing with the Sounds.

Melvin said it’s possible that if all continues to go well, Axford could come off the DL on the next homestand, which begins Thursday.
