GLENDALE, Ariz. – The historical ebb and flow of baseball is all about a grizzled veteran getting pushed to the max by the Next Great Thing.
Jed Lowrie knows all about it. He was the one doing the pushing in his early years in Boston. Now in Oakland, the 32-year-old infielder is the one attempting to keep from being pushed out of the way.
The man doing the pushing in this case is 21-year-old Franklin Barreto, one of the key players acquired from Toronto in the Josh Donaldson deal of a couple of years back.
