ANAHEIM – The A’s did their best to send Barry Zito out on a high note.
They outlasted the Los Angeles Angels 8-7 on Wednesday to avoid a three-game sweep and provide a fitting capper to what’s believed to be Zito’s final game of his big league career.
Oakland took the lead for good with a four-run seventh with the Angels contributing to the cause with four errors and seven walks issued by their pitching staff.
By the time that go-ahead rally unfolded, Zito's workday had long ended. The lefty tossed four innings of two-run ball.
