The Cleveland Indians won their 21st straight game Wednesday to set the American League record for consecutive wins, knocking the 2002 Oakland A’s out of the record book.
Jay Bruce’s three-run home run in the first inning gave the Indians a lead they didn’t surrender as they beat the Detroit Tigers 5-3.
With Wednesday’s victory, the Indians now have the longest winning streak in baseball in 82 years. Their 21st straight win not only pushed them past the 2002 A’s, who won 20 straight, and tied them with the 1935 for the longest in the sport’s modern era (not counting the 26 straight wins, interrupted by a tie, of the 1916 New York Giants).
