MESA, Ariz. — Renato Nunez’s quest to make the A’s Opening Day roster got off to good start in the Cactus League Opener.
Starting at third base, Nunez went 2 for 2 with a double in Friday’s 9-8 win over the Angels, but it was his work at the hot corner that really impressed manager Bob Melvin.
“He looks more relaxed on the field to me,” Melvin said. “Some of the work we’ve been doing, he stayed out in the big part of the ballpark which you want to early in the spring so you could track it.
