OAKLAND -- A's right-hander Sonny Gray has been given the green light to begin a Minor League rehab assignment this weekend, putting him on track for a return in two weeks.
Gray, who pitched 2 2/3 innings in extended spring training on Monday as he continues his recovery from a right lat strain, is scheduled for four or five innings -- up to 65 pitches -- with Class A Advanced Stockton on Saturday.
"This will be a big outing for him," A's manager Bob Melvin said. "Puts him on his way. Real game type of situation.
