Gray back with A's, but next start still unknown

OAKLAND –- Sonny Gray was back in the A’s clubhouse Thursday, looking and feeling better after a two-night hospital stay that was brought on by a case of salmonella.

Manager Bob Melvin didn’t hazard a guess as to when Gray would return to the rotation, but he said there’s a good chance his ace misses a second start, with Chris Bassitt likely to pitch in Gray’s place Sunday against Seattle.

Gray began feeling sick last Saturday, and after feeling a bit better Sunday, his condition took a turn for the worse Monday. He played catch that day, but by Monday night he had a 103-degree fever and felt bad enough to require a hospital trip.
