OAKLAND — If Frankie Montas keeps pitching like this, he might just stick around a little longer than originally anticipated.
Called up from Triple-A Nashville to fill in a starting rotation spot with injuries to Andrew Triggs and Brett Anderson, Montas was more than serviceable. The right-hander took a no-hitter into the sixth inning of Sunday’s 2-1 victory over the Diamondbacks in front of 13,947 fans at the Coliseum.
There was nothing fancy about what Montas was doing on the mound, he just kept it simple with a 97 mph fastball that Diamondbacks (26-26) hitters just were not able to catch up with.
