MESA, Ariz. – The A’s have not one but two former Cal shortstops on their spring roster.
There’s the one everybody knows about, Marcus Semien, who is about to begin his third season as the Oakland shortstop.
And then there is Michael Brady. He was the Golden Bears’ shortstop as a senior in 2009, the year Semien was a freshman, forcing Semien to fight for playing time.
Now it’s Brady who is having the fight for his place in baseball. He took stabs at shortstop for a year and at catching for a month after Miami took him with its 24th draft pick in 2009.
