Despite upheaval, A’s sweep Cleveland; strong start for Sean Manaea

Even on a day filled with distractions, with bullpen stalwarts Sean Doolittle and Ryan Madson dealt before the game, the A’s didn’t break their stride in completing a three-game sweep of the defending AL champions.

Sean Manaea turned in his usual strong start against Cleveland, working seven innings in the A’s 7-3 victory. Oakland jumped on Cleveland starter Trevor Bauer right out of the gate and chased him in the first inning. The A’s have won seven of their past nine games.

Manaea said he was “pretty sad” to see Doolittle and Madson go; they’ve been mentors to the second-year left-hander.
