SEATTLE - With yet another Oakland pitcher on the disabled list - every member of the regular rotation now has been out of action at least once this season - the A’s will turn to another option to start Saturday against the Mariners.
At the age of 36, Chris Smith will make his first-ever big-league start, multiple sources told The Chronicle.
Smith performed well in 13 appearances with Oakland as a reliever last year, putting up a 2.92 ERA. He’s 4-3 with a 3.16 ERA at Triple-A Nashville this season.
Smith has made 63 big-league appearances, all in relief, for the A’s, Red Sox and Brewers.
