HOUSTON – Daniel Gossett retired his first 10 batters, and then the Astros got rolling. Especially Carlos Correa, who hit a pair of two-run homers, and by then the A’s were on their way to another loss on Thursday to first-place Houston, 6-1.
Making his fourth major league start, Gossett (1-3) did not allow a hit until one out in the fourth when Josh Reddick beat the shift for an opposite-field double. Reddick scored on Correa’s two-out home run, giving the Astros a 2-1 lead.
“I didn’t make my pitches late (in the game) and it’s tough to have good defense when they’re hitting it out of the park,” said Gossett, who gave up five runs and seven hits over five innings.
