Cactus notes: Khris Davis, Stephen Vogt, Manuel Margot share thoughts

MESA, Ariz. – Oakland Athletics outfielder Khris Davis was perhaps the most surprising of the league’s eight batsmen to hit 40 or more home runs in 2016, and as someone who had invested in the former Milwaukee Brewer in multiple leagues, his April concerned me. It wasn’t merely that Davis hit .221 with three home runs over 86 at-bats, but the three walks versus 26 strikeouts raised eyebrows. Davis was a patient hitter in the minors and boasted a 10 percent walk rate in 2015, when he hit 27 home runs for the Brewers. No, he wasn’t patient like Joey Votto, but if one swings at everything, pitchers figure it out.
