OAKLAND — Bruce Maxwell was well aware of the scrutiny that would follow his decision to kneel during the national anthem and he’s already dealing with it.
While many fans have reached out to Maxwell with positive messages, the A’s catcher has also received a slew of threats from people who disagree with his political beliefs.
“I expected it. It’s nothing I haven’t dealt with in my life. The threats that I get are part of the problem. People see me as disrespecting the flag when over half the people that watch the games at home are sitting in their chairs and have their hats on as men,” Maxwell said after Sunday’s win over the Texas Rangers.
