OAKLAND — Brentwood native and Heritage High School standout Paul Blackburn was recalled from Triple-A Nashville on Friday and is set to take the mound for the A’s on Saturday against the Atlanta Braves for his major league debut.
The move comes after it was announced that Jharel Cotton would be unable to make the start due to a blister on his thumb. Manager Bob Melvin said the club will wait a few days before deciding if they need to place Cotton on the disabled list.
Blackburn, who will become the first Heritage alum to play in the big leagues, was 5-6 with a 3.
