Athletics securing massive Mason Miller trade haul from Padres is pure relocation play

The writing seemed to be on the wall that the Athletics were getting ready to trade fireballer closer Mason Miller when, despite being faced with a save situation in the 9th inning of their 5-4 victory over the Seattle Mariners on Wednesday night, Mark Kotsay did not turn to Miller. Kotsay stopped shy of providing a reason why Miller was unavailable after the game. The reason was provided in blockbuster fashion on Thursday, the day of the MLB trade deadline, as Miller and starting pitcher J.P. Sears were dealt to the San Diego Padres.

As everyone figured would be the case, the Athletics got a haul for Miller, including one of the best prospects in all of baseball.
